I’m not sure if this was done on purpose or not, but I really, really loved this because in a way these scenes in the first and last episodes represent what happened in Aoi’s childhood with the Kind Ayakashi.

This is the reason why I think it was beautiful that the anime “began” with Oodanna and “ended” with Ginji:

GinAoi

I think the saddest part about Ginji x Aoi (銀葵)* is that up to a certain point, Ginji had a 100% chance of getting Aoi, but this ship will sink because this boy is too good for his own good.

Whether or not he is the Kind Ayakashi, Ginji was the first one
to be there for Aoi when she came to the hidden realm, the first ayakashi Aoi
trusted there, and the one who kept supporting her since day one. (Oodanna supported Aoi since the beginning too but the thing about that is that he did it behind the scenes and Aoi wasn’t aware. If I recall correctly, Aoi was wary of Oodanna in the beginning, but not of Ginji. so bonus points for my boi!)

You can tell
that Aoi feels comfortable around him and cares about him. (She’s constantly
thinking about him and how he’s doing) Don’t even get me started on Ginji. I just love their interactions with each
other, they just act so natural. Based on that, I would say that they look like
a married couple the most. Both Aoi and Ginji started Moonflower and worked together
for it to succeed. If Ai is the child of Oodanna x Aoi, then Moonflower is the
child of Ginji x Aoi! lol

You can also tell that Aoi depends on Ginji, she needs him by
her side. Just look at everything that happened and how she reacted when they were taking Ginji away. She will go to great lengths to get him back, even getting herself in risky situations, she wants him back in Tenjin-ya no
matter what! (even has “selfish” thoughts about asking him to come back but
stops herself, and when asked what she would do if Ginji doesn’t want to go
back, she says that she *might* give up and well we know how Aoi is lol) I know
Aoi has helped a lot of ayakashi but it feels different when it comes to Ginji. The question is:

Is Aoi just giving back to the one
who’s always been there for her or does Aoi have feelings towards
Ginji?
I think it’s a little bit of both, I think she unconsciously likes or is
in love with Ginji based on her actions up until now. (Most likely just a crush that will fade after she falls 100% for Oodanna) If it wasn’t already obvious, episode 19 pretty much confirmed it for me.

(I really wonder what would have happened if Ranmaru wouldn’t have interrupted them when Aoi stopped Ginji after he refused her help.)

Will Ginji realize his feelings for Aoi? Most likely
yes. (Probably too late and it will be unrequited)

I think that in a scenario where Ginji were to tell Aoi that he loves her, Aoi would hands down choose Ginji. 😂 Sadly, that’s unlikely to happen lol GinAoi will most likely remain as good friends and be an unrequited love from Ginji’s part.**

Will we have a love triangle? Most
likely not.

Why not? Up until now, Ginji has had the advantage over Oodanna, but as of
recently, we have seen the development between Oodanna x Aoi. Aoi went from
being wary of him to learning more about him, respecting him and slowly
accepting him.

Does Aoi love Oodanna? I think for a while now, what Aoi has
been feeling towards Oodanna has been familial love. She even compares him to her grandpa at some point lol but it’s hard not to fall
for that handsome ogre god who’s constantly showing her how much she means to him
and saying things that make her blush. Oodanna is a smooth motherfucker.
lol He knows what he wants and he wastes no time in making his move. Aoi’s
feelings will surely, eventually, become romantic. (What I mean is that she will become aware that what she feels is romantic love because right now she hasn’t realized it yet.)

On
the other hand, Ginji is too good for his own good. He’s always been there for Aoi and most likely is in love with her, but hasn’t realized it yet. (I mean, have you seen him when he’s with her or the expression he makes when Aoi talks fondly about Oodanna? Unless there’s something going on, then I say that he has feelings for her!) Given the great lengths Aoi has gone for him, I think GinAoi just needs one small push and that’s it.** Ginji won’t make a move right now though because based on his personality, he’s trying not to get Aoi involved and keep her safe, not to mention he’s busy with the ceremony. (This of course is an advantage for Oodanna as he gets to spend more time with Aoi, helping her come to terms with how she really feels about him) Also, Ginji has an immense respect
for Oodanna and he deeply cares about Aoi which means that he wouldn’t act on his
feelings if he sees those two have mutual feelings for each other. (Probably) He will always keep supporting Aoi.

That’s the difference between
Ginji and Oodanna and why one relationship will progress into mutual love and the
other one will stay where it is, and be an unrequited love. Ginji’s personality, what I love the most about
his character, is also what’s going to sink this ship and that ultimately
breaks my heart lol

銀葵* = GinAoi is what I saw most of the posts from the JP
fandom that ship Ginji x Aoi had, so I will be calling this ship like this. Feel free to correct me. ^_^

** =  Of course, these scenarios I speak of would have been ideal earlier in the story or before Aoi’s feelings for Oodanna were clear to her.

Everything I wrote may seem a little bias towards Ginji (probably), but fun fact: I also ship Oodanna x Aoi lol OoAoi is my canon ship, GinAoi is my AU ship and I don’t see anything wrong with that.

I just like suffering, that’s all. At the end, I just want Ginji to be happy, but will this be possible? T_T It may sound ridiculous but I would be lying if I said my heart hasn’t been hurting about this whole thing for the past 2 days.

I have not read the novels, but I spent some time looking around yesterday and I’m just going to say that I really can’t wait to read Vol. 7!

Feel free to disagree, but please don’t be THAT one person that starts talking shit to others just because it’s not your ship. Everyone is free to have their opinions and this is mine based on what I’ve seen. lol Also, everyone can ship who they want without being toxic, don’t ya think?

Please note that I have not read the manga or novel (I have read some minor spoilers), I have only watched up to ep. 19 of the anime. Be considerate of others when commenting. Please use *spoilers* if you’re going to discuss anything beyond the episodes that have aired. I will warn you, but I’m not that patient: Failure to comply will get you blocked on the spot.

Ginji vs Oodanna, who helped young Aoi?

My guess: Ginji

May contain spoilers from the anime. Please read at your own risk.

The idea that Ginji might be the Ayakashi or might know something about the Ayakashi that helped Aoi as a child came to mind since ep. 1. If I recall correctly, Ginji’s expression changed for a second when Aoi spoke about that Ayakashi. Nothing was mentioned after that, so I decided to not think too much about it at the moment.

However, that idea came to mind once more in ep. 3 when Ginji told Aoi that she liked curry & rice. At first, it didn’t seem like that big of a deal. I said to myself “hmm I don’t remember Aoi telling him that???” and while I was doubting myself if I had forgotten that piece of info from the previous episodes, Aoi’s reaction after that event had me screaming. After Ginji left, Aoi started saying to herself how Ginji was of great help, but then stopped as she realized something: Ginji knew she liked curry and rice? There’s one reason I can think of why she would have that reaction and that would be because he knows a detail about her that she hadn’t told him. I feel that pretty much confirmed it for me.

Here’s what we know:

  • Ginji’s expression changed in ep. 1 when that Ayakashi was mentioned
  • He knows Aoi likes curry & rice, a detail he shouldn’t have known(?)
  • He is always looking out for Aoi, that Ayakashi looked out for her/cared about her and saved her
  • He can change his form, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he was that Ayakashi

Of course, just like others have mentioned, there’s always the possibility that it was someone else and that they told Ginji. That would also explain how he knows that information. Could that person be Oodanna or maybe Ginji’s mother? None of the above?

I can’t however, agree to the theory that Ginji knows the identity of the Ayakashi and wants Aoi to believe it was him because he wants to steal Aoi from Oodanna. I don’t believe Ginji is that kind of person and I would honestly be shocked if he was some kind of villain. He is like the most precious boy ever, so yeah.

Update: 2018.07.09

I’ve watched up to episode 15 and I’m still a firm believer that the Ayakashi is Ginji. It’s been heavily implied, but it has not been either confirmed or denied though.

There were times when the thought of the possibility that it was not Ginji crossed my mind. For example, one specific line that has always been bugging me is: “We will certainly meet again when you become an adult.” Why would Ginji and Aoi meet again, specifically when she’s an adult? It would make more sense if that Ayakashi was Oodanna since Aoi was promised to marry him after all.

Other than that everything points towards Ginji, but it may be nothing more than an illusion. Keyword: Illusion. A specific word in the new OP that caught my attention when they showed Ginji, as Ginji has the ability to deceive since he can shape shift. At some point in time I did say that it could have possibly been Ginji’s mother (Because that ayakashi seemed to be a woman and the hair color resembled Ginji’s) Another thought that has previously crossed my mind is that Ginji had a “mentor” and that he was the one who helped Aoi. This ayakashi is probably no longer alive and thus why Ginji makes a grim/sad expression when it comes to that ayakashi. It would make sense if that mentor left that mask to Ginji and thus Ginji is now filling the role of that “savior” ayakashi aka deceiving. (doesnt have to be for a bad reason though)  Either way, I can say that the identity of that Ayakashi is closely related to Ginji based on many scenes, dialogue and even the openings. (Another reason why I don’t think it’s Oodanna)

Take a look at this sequence though. I feel that the light represents the apparent realm to where Ginji crossed to help Aoi. When he turns around he puts on the mask and then the appearance changes to the one that helped Aoi, which heavily implies that it’s the same person. We know that Ginji’s power/aura/flame is blue and the ayakashi disappears with it:
